BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Born in 2384 in the picturesque coastal village of Porthcurno, Cornwall, Earth, Raphael Enys grew up surrounded by natural beauty and an ethos of service. His family deeply influenced his path. His mother, Dr Eleanor Enys, was a Federation physician specialising in interplanetary public health, often travelling to remote colonies to improve medical infrastructure. His father, Professor Thomas Enys, was a marine biologist whose research into aquatic ecosystems on Earth and other Federation worlds inspired Raphael’s fascination with life’s adaptability.
Raphael’s older sister, Commander Imogen Enys, pursued a career in Starfleet Engineering, eventually becoming Chief Engineer aboard the USS Venturer. His younger brother, Aedan Enys, opted for a creative path, becoming a renowned holonovelist whose works often explore the moral complexities of interstellar life. The Enys family shared a strong bond despite their varied careers, united by their commitment to bettering the galaxy.
Enrolling in Starfleet Academy in 2402, Raphael specialised in Epidemiology and Xenomedicine, excelling academically while developing a calm and measured leadership style. Graduating in 2410 as a Lieutenant Junior Grade, he was assigned to the USS Blissful, a Miranda-class cruiser retrofitted for exploration and medical support. There, he gained invaluable experience in frontline medical care and epidemiological research, earning recognition for containing a viral outbreak on Andoria in 2412, leading to his promotion to Lieutenant. It was also here where he first met, served alongside, and had a brief romantic relationship with Dr Mirazuni Ayesha, though this did not last.
His career advanced quickly with a transfer to the USS Olympus, an Olympic-class medical ship, in 2413. His work during crises such as the Derau II viral outbreak solidified his expertise in planetary-scale medical interventions. By 2415, Raphael joined the USS Dorothy Johnson Vaughan, a Nova-class science vessel, as Deputy Chief Medical Officer. He was decorated for treating crew and alien dignitaries exposed to mutagenic gas during a diplomatic mission and promoted to Lieutenant Commander later that year.
From 2417, Raphael served as Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Starbase 12, leading critical responses to the Grenthe Fever epidemic and authoring cross-species pandemic management protocols that became standard across Starfleet. His contributions earned him the Starfleet Surgeons Decoration and a reputation as a leading authority in epidemiology. In 2420, he became Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Meridian, an Intrepid-class starship, where he earned the Prentares Ribbon of Commendation for eradicating a parasite during first contact with the Khari.
Promoted to Commander in 2422, Raphael joined Starfleet Medical on Earth as a Senior Researcher, publishing influential studies on interspecies epidemiology. Despite his success, he missed the active-duty environment and returned to the field in 2424 as Chief Medical Officer on Deep Space 13.
